A Great Autumn Weekend in the City

It seems that fall weather has finally arrived to New York. We enjoyed a glorious weekend, with temperatures generally in the upper 60s with plenty of sun. A major storm arrived on Sunday, which gave us a great excuse to just relax in the apartment and enjoy each other's company. But Saturday we stayed busy. Here are the highlights:
The weekend actually began on Friday evening, with the Little Lady and I welcoming Jana home from a trip by taking her out to what has become a favorite neighborhood spot: Tavern 62. It's a great restaurant with a good menu, nice drinks, and a comfortable atmosphere. It is becoming a go-to spot. They have things like bison on the menu, which the LL loves. There is nothing super-fancy there. but what they do is done very well. And it's just two blocks away. The LL was very eager to take Jana out as a welcome home. It's actually the second time we've done that at this very restaurant.

The real highlight of the weekend was a trip to the pumpkin patch. You don't think they have pumpkin patches in Manhattan? Well, they don't, exactly. But it's pretty close. In reality they bring i a bunch of pumpkins and spread them on the grass in a public area. But, come to think of it, that's pretty much what they do at the pumpkin patch back in Knoxville, too. Except in Knoxville they do actually grow some pumpkins there in addition to the ones the cart in.

We took the ferry to Governor's Island to get to the pumpkins. Here is the Little Lady enjoying the ride:

Once there, we walked around the island, which was once a military base and has only recently been converted to park land. What an interesting place this would have been to be stationed. And this has to be one of the most interesting decommissioned military bases in the country.

We got some pictures with the pumpkins. We saw beautiful views of the skyline. And how often do you go to a pumpkin patch and take a picture with the Statue of Liberty in the background. Pretty cool. And it actually was cool, too. Not cold, but enough of a breeze to make us actually think autumn is really arriving. Finally, the LL got to go down one of the biggest slides she's ever been on. No pictures of that one. But with the silky-smooth outfit, she flew down the slide, went right off the end, and stuck the landing perfectly. She got a round of applause from admiring onlookers, me included. But no pictures of that one. I was too busy preparing myself for the possibility of an injury.
