First Snow of the Winter

Saturday marked the first snow this winter in NY. After the Little Lady finished up with her Spanish class, we decided to head out to Central Park to take advantage of the fresh snow. We wore ourselves out, but had a great time. See all the carriages driving by in the snow was beautiful. The atmosphere was one of celebration. And the snow hanging in the tree branches made for a magical setting. Mostly photos below with minimal commentary.

I'll start at the beginning. We picked up Little Lady as she finished Spanish class at around 1 in the afternoon. Jana and I had spent the morning at MoMA while LL was at class. The snow started in around 9 and was coming down steadily by late morning. This photo is looking out the window at the Cervantes Institute where she goes to Spanish class.

We had planned to go see Santa in the afternoon but decided to let the snow change our plans. The view from our apartment looked a little different today.

So we got ready and headed out into the snow. Having a snow suit like this seems silly in Knoxville. But I suspect it will see a lot of use this year. Thanks Grandma for the cute snow outfit!

Jana and the LL were eager to get the Central Park, where we figured it would be easy to find a place to play in the snow.

The scene in the park was wonderful. Ideal even.

Snow hanging in the branches and more coming down every minute, birds finding places to rest in the trees, white covering some of the historical buildings in the park, and carriages carrying passengers through the beautiful snow.

And we indeed find lots of places to play. It's funny, you think living in an urban environment like New York that it will be hard to spend time outside. Being close to Central Park eliminates those concerns. We found areas of the park that we were able to basically have to ourselves. The park makes for a much bigger yard than we have in Knoxville. The Little Lady made snow angels, and I happily joined her. She found a snowman to say hello to. And she found a hill that we used as a great place to chase each other around, throw snowballs, hide behind trees, and drag each other through the snow making shapes. She (and I) had a blast. We were definitely ready to had home after wearing ourselves out completely.

When we got home the LL had the rosiest cheeks I've ever seen. They were so pink they looked painted on. But they were completely real. She was tired. But she was so happy to play in the snow.
